Yesterday Teun and I rode our bikes to Den Hoorn, about a 11km ride each way. I hadn't been there before and neither had Teun. The ride was so pretty with forests all around. At the town itself there was a place with an enormous pumpkin out the front, I just had to take a photo. We decided to have a beer at one of the 3 pubs that I saw or was it 4? My trusty old Skuum Koppe for me and a standard beer for Teun.
So have I mentioned Skuum Koppe yet? It's absolutely the bestest beer in the world and it's made right here on Texel. Here is a photo of the Brewery tour we did a few weeks ago. Hahaha, ok that's Teun trying to drink the beer... but the next photo is a shot of the copper vats.
The right hand vat is used for the mixing hence the temperature gauge on the vat, and the left hand vat is for filtering. Then they transfer the beer to the big stainless steel vats.
And here are the Stainless vats. Great little brewery this one, and of course it makes the best beer I've ever tasted. Please feel free to peruse their website. Not only is it the best tasting beer, but (within reason) you don't get hangovers from it! I'd say maybe because they make it on the island so they don't need to put as many preservatives in it, but it's still soooo good.
Anyway. just another note, to pronounce it, it's "Scoom cop-er", so no, it's not a glass of scum :)
